New resin could extend lifespan of fillings
The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Science helped dentist Fernando Luis Esteban Florez, DDS, PhD, develop a new antibacterial adhesive resin. He and a team of researchers created antimicrobial nanoparticles and added them to polymer resin. This research breakthrough has the potential to prevent secondary tooth decay and improve the lifespan of dental restorations.
Why it matters: The technology could have wide applications, from dental restoration to whitening. (U.S. Department of Energy)
Prepare for HHS 'crack down' on information blocking
Under the 21st Century Cures Act of 2016, dentists and other health care providers cannot engage in information blocking related to patients' medical and billing records.
